Ever since I found out I was pregnant, I have been thanking God for letting me be a Mom to the wonderful blessing that we now know is our son, Zeke.
What I really should've done is thank God for giving me a mother's heart.
Here's the deal, or at least, here's what I think: I think we Moms become Moms before we have our little (or big ones) in our arms and instead when our hearts decide we want to be Moms.
I think being a Mom is a heart thing. How else do you explain the love for your unborn child or the love you have for an adopted child you haven't met yet? You know?
I know Hallmark doesn't touch on this because the heart part of being a Mom looks so different than what you read on cards in the grocery store. The heart aspect of being a Mom is inclusive of all babies and children-- born and unborn, of our wombs or from someone else's...
At the end of the day, I can't celebrate today and marvel at the blessing God has bestowed on me without thinking of the hundreds of millions of other women who know they are mothers in their hearts but have a different looking story than my own.
So, here's to all of the other mothers out there. Here's to you and your big heart.
